What we collect
We only collect what you give us. From educators: the details on a volunteer visit application (your name, role, email, school, and the information you share about your students and your school's need), and, if you sign up for email updates, your email address plus your name, role, and state if you choose to share them. From authors: your application (name, email, books, publisher, and school references if you're self-published), your profile details and photos, and the email address you use to sign in.
What's public
Approved author profiles are public: name, photo, bio, books, testimonials, location and no-travel-fee distance, grades, languages, visit formats (including any free Q&A or Title I discount they offer), website and social links, and booking link. The email address an author signs in with is never shown publicly, and neither is whether an author takes part in volunteer visits. If an author chooses an email address as their booking contact, that address appears on their profile.
How we use it
To review applications, route volunteer visit requests to authors, help schools and authors connect, and send the emails you'd expect, such as confirmations, sign-in links, and updates about your request. If you sign up for educator updates, we send occasional emails about grant deadlines, author news, and new features. Every update email has an unsubscribe link, and we stop emailing you as soon as you use it.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your information. When a school's volunteer visit request is approved, we share the request details with the author who'll be asked to do the visit. We use a small number of service providers to run the site (hosting, our database, email delivery, and Google Fonts for the site's typefaces), and they handle data only to provide those services.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed for signing in (for authors and site administrators). We don't use advertising trackers on this site.
Children's data
This site is for educators and authors, not children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Please don't include students' names or personal details in a visit request.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from update emails anytime using the link in any email. Authors can edit their profile anytime by signing in. To see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you, email info@findanauthor.org.
